Jo-Ann Weiner worked for the IRS for 35 years before starting her forensic accounting practice J. L. Weiner & Associates, LLC in 2013. Her 35 years of IRS experience included auditing federal tax returns, working as a special enforcement agent on civil, criminal and grand jury cases and serving as an expert witness. In addition, she spent time teaching corporate taxation to Revenue Agents. In her practice one of Jo-Ann’s goals is to help people who find themselves facing a difficult federal or state audit. From her point of view, knowledge is most effective if it is shared. So she uses the knowledge she acquired from her vast experience auditing federal tax returns to work in her practice helping those who need it and to insure the law is applied fairly and accurately to her clients. As an Enrolled Agent Jo-Ann certainly qualifies as one of “America’s Tax Experts”. She is licensed by the Treasury Department to practice anyplace in the US. Obtaining a Certified Fraud Examiner license was a natural progression to Jo-Ann. Her past experience included performing the forensic accounting work required by the Assistant US Attorney’s Office in bringing the tax charges on federal prosecutions or working on plea agreement cases. In her private practice, Ms. Weiner uses this knowledge and experience to represent corporations victimized by corporate fraud. Jo-Ann helps law firms, businesses, non-profits, government entities to assist in resolving difficult financial challenges.
Jo-Ann currently serves as a national speaker teaching tax law and tax controversy resolution skills to other practitioners. She has also been published nationally on indirect methods of proving income. Indirect methods of proving income are used in several ways; for example, she uses it in her representation work in tax audits and she uses it in determining funds available in divorces.
Jo-Ann is a member of the Association of Certified Fraud Examiners, a member of the National Association of Enrolled Agents, National Association of Valuation Analysts and the New Jersey Society of Enrolled Agents. She is a Director on the Board of the NJSEA leading several initiatives for them. Jo-Ann serves on the Burlington County Women’s Advisory Council. She serves on the National Association of Women Business Owners, NAWBO’s National Taxes and Federal Regulations Council. Jo-Ann received NAACP’s Frances Hooks Award in 2014 for “showing courage in promoting diversity and building bridges across cultures. Jo-Ann’s goal to “give back” resulted in her recently formalizing her foundation, Women, Words, and Wisdom dedicated to the education of women regarding current issues providing a forum for discussion and awareness of issues affecting them.
As a member of American Heart’s Executive Leadership Team, Red Dress Circle and “Open Your Heart” Chairperson, she works to raise awareness of the fact that heart disease is the No. 1 killer of women! She believes that education can raise awareness of steps that can be taken to make us all healthier and reduce the risks of heart disease. We can help spread the word and awareness about monitoring and controlling blood pressure, about the value of eating a heart-healthy diet and about the value of moderate exercise.
